Can it get even more emotional and agitating than it was with the author´s Slammed trilogy? Before I read Maybe Someday I would have said clearly no. But I was wrong – sooooo wrong. I don´t know how she does it, where she gets all her ideas, the characters but once again Colleen Hoover managed to write a story where feelings run high and where the plot does the rest to catch the reader. At first, I wasn´t sure at all if I really wanted to read this novel; not with the impression I had after the Slammed trilogy. But then I couldn´t resist and it was worth every minute I spend reading it.

✶✶✶✶✶

At twenty-two years old, Sydney has a great life: She´s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter´s cheating on her – and she is left trying to decide what to do next.
Sydney becomes captivated by Ridge, her mysterious neighbor. She can´t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there´s something about Sydney that Ridge can´t ignore, either. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one …
Story
Sydney is homeless. At least that is how she puts it. After she had to find out that her boyfriend is unfaithful and has been for many months´ she has enough and breaks up with him. Now she doesn´t know where to go and sits in the pouring rain. Ridge is a musician who is looking for a new housemate. And when he offers Sydney a room in his apartment and she accepts it, he starts something that neither of them wanted nor was looking for.

Style
Colleen Hoover has a wonderful writing style. She tells the story about Sydney and Ridge not only in a very sensitive and clear way but also from the first-person perspective of both of them. One chapter is told in that way from Sydney, the next from Ridge. A very interesting and entertaining way that allows the reader not only to get a great view on both sides but also how they react to each other. When Sydney moves in with her little belongings, she finds things out not only about herself but also about life in general and why some things aren´t the way the seemed to be in the first place.

Maybe Someday isn´t as haunting or fascinating as the other books I´ve read by the author. Not for almost three-quarters of the story – but then BAM! All of the sudden action comes into the lines you never expected and the reader is set on an emotional rollercoaster that is simply amazing.

Characters
Ridge is deaf since he can think. That forced him to find other ways to get to know things. So his way of experiencing music, to “hear” how Sydney sings his songs and to watch her doing that, becomes a life-changing experience. Because he feels a connection with her he never thought he would exist. Well, and then there´s the fact that he is still in a relationship and that there is no way to break up with his girlfriend only because he falls in love with Sydney. Not for him. The author shows that conflict, which starts to grow not only between Sydney and Ridge but also to infect the other people in the apartment in a wonderful way. Ridge´s struggle, how he fights to stay with his girlfriend and how she finally starts seeing the truth, and how Sydney can cope with all that is shown in an amazing story.

Sydney is a bit naïve but also in some ways kind of mature. I was not sure what to think of her for mostly the entire book. She knows on one hand what she wants, but on the other, she isn´t sure how to get it. She does things she never thought she´d do, but when she´s doing them, she has to learn that not everything in life is meant for you. That you can´t get everything you desire.

Conclusion
After I finished this book I was completely agitated. And since I´ve read it during a few days in which I had to learn a bitter truth, this book will be bound to that forever. But despite that, it is a fantastic read and I highly recommend it.

Happy reading
