Locked away inside the fortified walls of Oxford´s St. Wilfred´s College, surrounded by alchemists sworn to protect them, Taylor and Sacha are safe from the Darkness. For now. But time is short. In seven days Sacha will turn 18 and the ancient curse that once made him invincible will kill him, unleashing unimaginable demonic horror upon the world. There is one way to stop it. Taylor and Sacha must go to where the curse was first cast – the medieval French city of Carcassonne – and face the demons. The journey will be dangerous. And monsters are waiting for them. But as Darkness descends on Oxford, their choice is stark. They must face everything that scares them or lose everything they have.
Story
Taylor tries to prepare herself for the fight of her life: to save Sacha and to get rid of the Demon that means absolute danger to the alchemists. But what seems so easy to speak about turns out to be more difficult than they thought. None of the alchemists knows how to kill the demon and break the curse and Taylor hasn´t learned to control her abilities – yet.

Style
C. J. Daugherty´s style is soft, clear, and very effective. She doesn´t need to be loud with her words to fascinate the reader. Ok, there are some pages towards the end during which the story becomes a bit flat, but mostly this novel is big entertainment. But don´t think you won´t see any blood or dark moments. The showdown between Taylor and the demon is quite something.

Characters
Taylor has changed. She´s no longer the teenage girl who is only interested in her studies, her classes, and what she must do to achieve her life plan. And to keep control over everything. Her new discovered abilities, her feelings for Sacha, and the knowledge that only she will be able to save Sacha - if she learns how to control her power, and if they find what they are looking for – all that sets certain willpower and strength in her free, that is simply amazing. The moment she finally realizes what she has to do and how is one of the best parts of this book.

Conclusion
That was great! Filled with action, two fantastic main characters, and a story full of passion, love, darkness, and magic. The way how Taylor and Sacha deal with what is supposed to be their destiny, how they act, and what they do to prove that love can solve everything, wow, just wow.

Happy reading
