After I had so much fun reading the third book, I definitely had to read this one too. It is in the typical style the author duo has, and which makes them unique in their very own way. But I also discovered, that I wasn´t as entertained, as I was while reading the other books. Well … No doubt, this novel has its very own way to throw its reader into a WTF-emotion. But the novel itself wasn´t as fun or entertaining to read as I had expected. Well, maybe I´ve set my expectations way too high.

Easton Royal has it all: looks, money, intelligence. His goal in life is to have as much fun as possible. He never thinks about the consequences because he doesn´t have to. Until Hartley Wright appears, shaking up his easy life. She´s the one girl who´s said no, despite being attracted to him. Easton can´t figure her out and that makes her all the more irresistible. Hartley doesn´t want him. She says he needs to grow up. She might be right. Rivals. Rules. Regrets. For the first time in Easton´s life, wearing a Royal crown isn´t enough. He´s about to learn that the higher you start, the harder you fall.
Story
Hartley is the first girl that seems to be able to resist Easton´s charm and sex appeal. For her, that Royal means nothing but trouble. And she´s right. Whatever Easton tries to make up for her, he gets her in even more trouble and pain. So why the heck is she still talking to him and trying to understand his world of raw emotions, too much alcohol, and no borders at all?

Style
While reading Fallen Heir, I couldn´t help myself but feel that this is very similar to the first book of this series. Only that this time the girl comes from a rich and powerful family and has to cope with a reckless and very conservative father. In Hartley´s life is nothing golden or easy. Her father doesn´t allow any member of his family to be flawed. But there is one, and with her sister, he tries to emotionally hold her at ransom. Only that Hartley isn´t handling the situation the way she´s supposed to. And that drives her father wild. The conflict Hartley is in, was a bit too much for my taste. Sure, such conflicts within families do exist, that´s nothing new. But I hardly believe that a family is really treating its children the way Hartley´s family does it in this book.

Despite that, the style, the words, the scenes, and the fucked-up life Easton is living, was nice to read. The author duo hasn´t changed a bit when it comes to their writing style. How they bring some bad habits to light or show the reader that even the rich and famous have their problems and evil things to deal with.

Characters
I wasn´t amused to see the whole extent of Easton´s alcohol abuse. And that is probably the real reason why I am not as happy with this novel as I was with the other books. It was nice and to some point very entertaining to read about his crashes and how he tried to make up for all the bullshit he did while being drunk as a skunk. But what I disliked was the way how that was displayed by the author duo.

And Ella! Holy Christ. She´s a real pain in the ass. Treating Easton as if she´s his disapproving mother and completely out of her place. Don´t get me wrong. I like her very much and loved how she was acting in the other three novels. But in this one? Hell, no! It became very soon very annoying. Sorry guys, but I am not fond of her in this part.

Conclusion
And THAT CLIFFHANGER! How can you do this to me?! I finished this book sometime during the night and after that sleep wasn´t an option. BECAUSE my head was spinning about what had happened and if there would be another dead figure in this series. Holy heck, that wasn´t funny at all.

Happy reading
