Undying-Das Vermächtnis by Amie Kaufman, Meagan Spooner

I still don´t know what made me want this. The cover isn´t my choice, and the critics I´ve heard from others were not very thrilling either. But I like to find out for myself if a book is good and meets my taste. Well …

On Earth, Jules and Amelia would have hated each other: he was a spoiled Oxford genius, she a plunder from the underworld of Chicago. Two like fire and water – but when they meet on the planet Gaia, it is immediately clear that they will need each other. A pragmatic community of purpose for a breakneck mission, nothing more. Or is there more than that? (personal translation by ©Vi at Inkvotary)

Thoughts

I liked the author duo´s These Broken Stars books (Starbound trilogy), at least the first one. And with that in mind I thought, why not try this and see myself why others weren´t so happy with it.

Irgendwas Von Dir by Gayle Forman

I Was Here is a wonderfully written novel about depression. Gayle Forman shows what this illness does to people. How families are torn apart and that love can give you some answers.

Cody and Meg were inseparable – best friends forever. They knew everything about each other. Anyway, Cody thought that. Until she gets the e-mail and suddenly nothing is the same as before. Who was Meg really? Cody goes in search of answers and finds what she does not expect-friendship and love. (personal translation by ©Vi at Inkvotary)

Thoughts

I would have never guessed, according to the German cover, that this is a novel about such a painful topic. But reading it was worth every minute I spent with Cody and Meg´s family.

Nevernight-Das Spiel by Jay Kristoff

I am still in a weird emotional state. This wasn´t what I was expecting. Not at all. With Godsgrave the author throws you into a world where the sun burns mercilessly down on everything, where Mia has to prove to herself that she is more than an ordinary assassin and where blood means nothing to some of the folks.

Mia returns to Godsgrave, the city of bridges and bones. As a contract killer of the Red Church, she follows their orders to the word and kills without asking questions. Her real goal, however, are the men who have her family on their conscience: Consul Scaeva and Cardinal Duomo. When Mia finds out that the Assassin Order is protecting Scaeva, she turns her back on him and commits her greatest stupidity to date: she sells herself into slavery to become a gladiator in the Big Games. For the winner, it is said, is granted a private audience with the consul … (personal translation by ©Vi at Inkvotary)

Thoughts

Good, I had some trouble getting into the novel, for quite some chapters, but that wasn´t because of the novel, but because of me.
