I had the huge pleasure to get to know the author´s work with this fantastic book. When I applied for it, I never expected to be one of the few lucky persons who could actually read it long before everyone else would. And what can I say? I ENJOYED every second of this fantastic novel! This is the first book by Sarina Bowen I have ever read. And for sure not the last. She got me hooked right from the beginning and kind of read it overnight.

The last person Griffin Shipley expects to find stuck in a ditch on his Vermont country road is his ex-hookup. Five years ago, they´d shared a couple of steamy nights together. But that was a lifetime ago. At twenty-seven, Griff is now the accidental patriarch of his family farm. Even his enormous shoulders feel the strain of supporting his mother, three siblings, and a dotty grandfather. He doesn´t have time for the sorority girl who´s shown up expecting to buy his harvest at half price. Vermont was never in Audrey Kidder´s travel plans. Neither was Griff Shipley. But she needs a second chance with the restaurant conglomerate employing her. Okay – a fifth chance. And no self-righteous lumbersexual farmer will stand in her way. They´re adversaries. They want entirely different things from life. Too bad their sexual chemistry s as hot as Audrey´s top secret enchilada sauce.
Story
Audrey has the dream to become a chef cuisine, running her own restaurant, and doing simply what she loves the most: creating and cooking delicious things that no one can resist. But it isn´t easy to stand up for her dreams with her mother in her neck and a boss who thinks a woman in a professional kitchen is only good for chopping vegetables. And with her being sometimes a bit clumsy things are not getting easier.
Style
The novel is written from Audrey´s and Griff´s first-person perspective and structured into three parts. Hot scenes, quick-witted dialogues, to die for characters, the great beauty of the landscape of Vermont, and a very fun to read writing style (and OMG Sarina Bowen uses some words!) make this novel a fantastic read. Not only that I read the entire book overnight – I just couldn´t stop reading – I also had to laugh quite a lot. The scene with the sex-cider, oh yes, you´ve read that right, was one heck of a show.
And the fact that Audrey has a very nimble-witted way to deal with Griff and his grumpy way is so hilarious that you can´t do anything else but laugh tears.
Characters
All the characters show a lot of heart, understanding, emotions, and loyalty. But don´t think that everything is sunshine and flowers here. Oh no! The one scene where Audrey´s mother shows up at the farm is one of the scenes that show a completely different side of how you usually expect a mother to be. With such a mother in your back, you don´t need any enemies, that´s for sure.
Audrey is a lovely, a bit clumsy, straightforward young woman who knows exactly what she wants. Cooking, cooking, and … guess what: right, cooking! To create a delicious meal out of some vegetables, meat, herbs, and whatever nature provides at that moment is bliss for her. And she fights for becoming a chief and running her own restaurant someday. She has to fight a lot of prejudice and that she isn´t French.
Conclusion
I had the time of my life reading this book! And for sure I will read the others of this trilogy as well since I am really eager to find out how the others will do and if they get their perfect match. For fans of Sarin Bowen, this is clearly a must-read. And for those who don´t know her, the perfect way to change that. Highly recommended.
Happy reading
