With the Weekly Book Wrap-Up, I give you a bit of an insight into all the new books that have arrived at my place. No matter if I won a giveaway, got approved for a reviewer´s copy, an ARC or just bought one myself. Everything that I add to my shelves, in what way ever and read during the past week or am still reading, I will write about it.  And maybe I tell you a bit about the upcoming things on Inkvotary, that is if I don´t forget it and have something to share with you *smile*

I am linking up with Tynga´s Reviews and Caffeinated Reviewer and hope you´ll have fun reading it and maybe get the one or the other book inspiration.

Stacking The Shelves #106

I am repeating myself but no news here, sorry.

Sunday Post #63

I didn´t get much reading done over the past week. Sure, I finished a book but realized that it took me over two weeks to read it. Not sure if it was the book itself or simply me. I managed to change some of my old posts into the new design and found many new ideas while I was looking around the blogosphere. It is always great to see how others run their blogs and what they have to say about certain things.

Today we are celebrating international women´s day and I almost forgot about it. The past week was a weird one and the weekend is no exception. I am dead tired and went to bed very early for a Saturday night. And to be honest. I don´t feel much of a woman these days. Two floors below me, the new neighbors have moved in and the once quiet house is filled with noise again. And I noticed that I´ve literally enjoyed the quietness we had during the past two and a half months on this side of the building.

On Wednesday the book world got informed, that the Leipziger Book Fair, which was supposed to be running 12-15 March this year, got canceled due to the Coronavirus. A few hours later the hashtag #bücherhamstern (hoarding books) was born and with it came a success that took us all by surprise. Since that hashtag will only show you tweets in German, I will tell you a bit about it.

For all the smaller publishers, the cancellation of the book fair meant a huge financial problem. All the flyers - for the bin. All the swag they had ordered and packed - for the bin. Not to mention all the books that were supposed to be introduced to the reading audience during the book fair (and hopefully sold). One person thought about it and came up with the hashtag #bücherhamstern (hoarding books) that was then published via Twitter. Everybody who got hit by the cancellation can list the books they had planned on presenting to the book world over that hashtag. Authors, book bloggers, publishers, etc. Within hours you could find many Tweets with links to posts, or a presentation about a new book and all those Tweets were telling you, that if the publisher or author is having its own shop, to order the books, bags, etc. over that shop.

On Friday I saw that some books are already sold out and that some authors had posted a picture of the packages they had to bring to the post office. They were all so HAPPY. For the first time since I am reviewing books, I saw the German blogger community be nice and supporting others. Don´t get me wrong. But usually, there is a lot of jealousy and bad feelings. Other bloggers are more seen as an enemy, as one that costs the other followers, viewers or even the attention of a publisher. The rivalry is huge and the behavior towards each other isn´t the best. Sometimes even ugly. The positive reaction that came out of the #bücherhamstern hashtag hasn´t only hit me by surprise. Some newspapers were telling about it and that means something.

And last but not least I am so sorry that I have not commented back or done some blog hopping to all of you who do the Sunday Post or any other form of a weekly recap. I feel bad about it and hope that it will change soon.

How was your week?

Happy reading

  1. I love the idea of the hoardingbooks response to the cancellation of the book fair! What a fabulous response to a potential catastrophe - and made possible by social media:)). Thank you for sharing this - it has quite cheered me up! Hoping you have an enjoyable week, Vi.

    1. It cheered me up too when I saw it. Yes, sometimes something good comes out of a bad situation.

  2. I didn't know that the German blogger community was so jealous! I have only met kind people about bloggers so far. Now that is amazing for these little shops! I have booked the London hotel for YALC in July and I hope that by that time, things will have settled down and that it won't be canceled. Have a good week Vi!

  4. I hope you feel more like yourself soon! You sound down. It's cool that the community came together. I've only mostly had nice experiences blogging, but I know it's because I have a small, happy circle and treat it like a hobby...because it is just a hobby to me. Happy reading!

    1. You are right, I do feel down. To be honest, the international blogger community is the place where I found help when I had a question or just needed help. The other gave me only silence. The best hobby in the world, if you ask me *smile*

  5. It sucks that the book fair got cancelled, but I’m glad Twitter was able to come to the rescue! It’s always awesome when Twitter uses its powers for good instead of evil.

    1. You just made my day, Kimberly with the "hoarding ketchup?" I am laughing tears here *lol* This morning, I went to get some things from the supermarket and stood laughing in front of the empty line where usually all sorts of toilet paper are standing. And while I was looking at the empty space, a woman came around the corner with a palette full of toilet paper. We joked about the entire situation and I got my one package of toilet paper. It is almost sad that people react as if there´s no tomorrow.
