With the Weekly Book Wrap-Up, I give you a bit of an insight into all the new books that have arrived at my place. No matter if I won a giveaway, got approved for a reviewer´s copy, an ARC or just bought one myself. Everything that I add to my shelves, in what way ever and read during the past week or am still reading, I will write about it.  And maybe I tell you a bit about the upcoming things on Inkvotary, that is if I don´t forget it and have something to share with you *smile*

I am linking up with Tynga´s Reviews and Caffeinated Reviewer and hope you´ll have fun reading it and maybe get the one or the other book inspiration.

Sunday Post #70

The past week was a very exhausting one. Almost every day we´ve got informed by the newspapers or a press conference that the rules have changed. And there is a lot of confusion about the new rules. From tomorrow on, we have to wear masks when in a shop or on any sort of public transportation. One state said that although the government has only given out a “strong recommendation” it would make it a new duty. Within hours another state came up with the same news and after a few days, all states in Germany told the people that this would become mandatory. Until further notice. And concerning kids in most states, it is up to their parents if they wear one or not. And with the weather getting warmer, the air is getting noticeably warmer too. And with that, you notice that underneath the mask you are sweating like crazy. I have no clue how that will work when we have over 78°F in the summer and the sun burning down on us. Ugh!

On Thursday I discovered that my library is about to reopen. At first, I was all woohoo and literally doing some sort of happy dance. Thank god nobody was there to tape that *lol*. Then, I read the information again and all the way down to the bottom and to be honest, after that I was completely confused. I had to read it three times before I understood what they were telling us. Over the next week, they will only take calls or emails and make appointments with us when and how we can bring back the books we´ve all have at home from January – early February. It seems a lifetime ago now. No personal contact for the next days and weeks. If I want to borrow a new book, I now have to check their online catalog and only the books I will find there I am able to borrow. As far as I could see, they changed the handling of the online catalog as well. Normally, I was able to log myself in and extend a book if possible or put myself on a waiting list for another book. Not possible anymore. I get that they must clean every incoming book now and that they have to put it aside for at least two weeks before they can give it out again. All to make sure that the virus doesn´t get a chance to spread. And I get too, that they had to somehow change the handling of the system for us readers to avoid any difficulties that could come up. They need to be in total control of when a book goes out and to whom and when it comes back and how it comes back. But when I read all the new information for the first time, I was overwhelmed and thought “how complicated” *sigh* Well, I will see how things work over the next two weeks and how I am able to deal with them. I´m aware that there exists a so-called “Onleihe”. That is the German counterpart of the electronic library most of you are so used to from their own libraries. Not sure how that works in your state, but here in Germany I need to download an app, which only works on my smartphone and that display is tiny. And I found out that the app isn´t working the way it is supposed to. Therefore, I still prefer reading a printed book.

On the same day, I had to go to the mail office. On my way there I pass the building where our local ice cream parlor is in. Usually, it is a great view of seeing people and children of all ages licking on a cone of ice. Not this time. When I see how the reopening of the ice cream parlor worked this week, I am not so confident in other people any longer. People react as if there is no virus anymore. As if the danger of that little fucker is gone. It isn´t. The boardwalk was packed with people and you could see even from afar that they weren´t standing with the 6 ft distance between them. And the red sign, that tells all buyers that they aren´t allowed to eat their ice within a range of 50 meters? WTF? That is what, about 164 ft, right? I buy it but can not start eating it while walking away? Do I have to watch it melt before I reach that distance?

But I do have some other good news too. My father is walking and going on long hikes with my stepmother now. He is using his Nordic-walking-sticks but hey, he is WALKING. And without having to take any painkillers. Good, he told me with a broad smile, he can´t run a marathon yet but he is extending his walking route day by day and feeling better and better. The pictures I´ve got, show him all smiles and happy.

How was your week?

Stay safe and healthy!

Happy reading

  2. I think the confusion is common to all countries, but better safe than sorry I think personally.
It’s unfortunate you can’t access the ebook app, I have several I’m able to access which I can use on my tablet, from my local library network and state library. Can you access a site like Scribd? They have a 30 day trial period you might find useful.
Good news about your father too.

Wishing you a great reading week, be well x

    1. I used Scribd once but when they changed their system I cancelled my membership. But that was before the GDPR became law in Germany.

  3. So interesting about decontaminating the books. I only use our libraries virtual library and hadn't thought about that. I am not even sure when ours will reopen, but will research. Our governor makes recommendations that no one seems to follow. I would think masks would only be needed in places where social distancing is an issue. Be safe.

    1. I do hope that this pandemic will be over during my lifetime and that they will develop a vaccine soon. The current status is not really living life to the fullest.

  4. I'm so glad your father is better! And the library is starting to open. I personally am glad for just digital books and audios so it wasn't "closed" to me at all. I like the weather in the 70s but you are right - those masks are hot. We aren't going out even if the govt does start to open things. Stay safe and be well!

  5. I hope the government makes the rules a little more clear. It's hard enough to be safe as it is without adding confusion on top of it. That is great to hear about your Dad though. I hope his progress continues. :)

    1. I hope that too. He seems to be a different kind of man when he can´t walk on his own.

  6. "Do I have to watch it melt before I reach that distance? " I'm sorry that made me laugh. I know nothing about the virus is funny but I that seriously made me smile, so thanks. :)

Seriously though, I get your frustration with the people not distancing. It blows my mind because I can't understand why so many people don't take this more seriously. It's pretty bad here in the States too how blase some folks are...

And that's awesome news! Glad to see some good stuff amongst all the bad. :)

Be safe! And have a good week...

    1. Now YOU made me laugh with your reaction to my "Do I have to watch it melt before I can reach that distance?" Don´t be sorry that you were laughing. That is absolutely OK. Yes, we live at the moment in a time where we don´t joke about this virus but those words came out with frustration and I thought I let them be part of my post.

  7. So happy your father is doing well. We all need more good news, eh? I wish your online library was like ours here in Michigan (U.S.). The app lends the books out through Amazon the same as when I buy a Kindle book, but it goes away after the lending period. Take care of you and yours, and stay healthy!
