With the Weekly Book Wrap-Up, I give you a bit of an insight into all the new books that have arrived at my place. No matter if I won a giveaway, got approved for a reviewer´s copy, an ARC, or just bought one myself. Everything that I add to my shelves, in what way ever and read during the past week or am still reading, I will write about it. And maybe I tell you a bit about the upcoming things on Inkvotary, that is if I don´t forget it and have something to share with you *smile*

I am linking up with Caffeinated Reviewer and Reading Reality and hope you´ll have fun reading it and maybe get the one or the other book inspiration.

Sunday Post #128

For the past week, I only have one word. Terrible. I was called a liar, and not trustworthy anymore. A severe rainfall Monday afternoon brought enough water to flood the entire basement. I don´t have a cellar there but helped two of my neighbors to deal with the water. The water stood about an inch high, and it took us the entire afternoon to get everything dry as well as possible.

Tuesday was a somehow relaxed day. I got myself an appointment for the annual cancer screening, asked for a medical recipe, and confirmed two other medical appointments.

On Wednesday I took a day off. I was still shocked about the outrageous words I had heard Monday during a phone call and went to get some groceries done.

The next day, Thursday, was a day with very mixed feelings. I stayed away from most of my neighbors and went to the supermarket to get myself some fresh food. When I got home, I called my stepmom because I saw that she had tried to call me. It was one of the worst phone calls I have ever made. My dad yelled in the background that he wasn´t wearing the splint and that I shouldn´t interfere. Called me some bad things, and although I kept telling myself that it is his illness that is speaking to me, it still hurts. He had forgotten, that he had been to the dentist in the morning and that two teeth had been removed. He yelled for some tweezers to get the seam material out between his teeth, and it was just terrible to hear all that. It needed another call from my brother-in-law to calm him down and after that, it was quite clear to us that we would have to make some hard decisions.

The night from Thursday into Friday was a sleepless one. I was thinking about a solution that would make it easier for all of us and help my dad and stepmom. The only good thing that day was the fact, that I could go to the post office and pick up some new books.

Saturday was another quiet day. Until one of my neighbors started shouting at me because of her wet cellar and the fact that I had put my bin back into its right place. I was so sick and tired of all the anger that I told her that I am not her punching bag and that I don´t care if she is having a water problem or not. My bin stays there and that´s it. As I said, the past week was just terrible. Gosh, let August be a better month. I could use it for sure.

How was your week? Stay safe and healthy.

Happy reading

  1. I'm so sorry you've had such a difficult week, Vi! I really hope things will be much, much better in August.
I've seen some of the flooding in Germany - my daughter lives in Bonn and works in Cologne - and I just hope it will calm down with the rain so that people can feel safe once more.
Your new books look great - hopefully they'll both be winners.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    1. Thank you for your kind words. I know, the water situation here in my apartment building is nothing compared to the flood situation in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. But the feeling I feel since Monday is one I can´t shake off and keeping a clear head is not easy. Hope dies last, right?!

  3. I am so sorry to hear that. How awful. Words can be hurtful even when or if we know it's illness speaking or whatever. I hope August starts out better for you my friend!

    The Tess Gerritsen looks good.
