The cover and the summary made me want to read this novel. But I didn´t expect it to be such a heartbreaking and highly dramatic novel that it was. This novel is about pain, drama, and loss. All in one. Heartbreaking and filled with emotions. Have handkerchiefs on hand.

Story
Anna and Max feel from the first moment on, that there is something very special between them. But when a picture from Anna´s family album makes Max ask a question, whatever they had is falling apart. Because a cruel tragedy in their families' past threatens to destroy their feelings and future forever.
Style
Admittedly, during the first couple of chapters, I was confused because I couldn´t do anything with the different characters. It took a long time until the first suspicions formed in my head and even longer until the author began to confirm them through the plot.
The stories of two families are told almost parallel to each other and at the same time those of a young couple, Anna, and Max, who at first glance have nothing in common. The author´s style is gentle, sensitive and depicts the world of young families who build a nest and do everything to feel comfortable there. Isabell May describes the normal everyday madness of two young families with small children. In doing so, she manages in a fantastic way to prevent everyday life from appearing boring, even if it quickly becomes obvious to the reader that one of the main characters in her chosen life is almost bored to death. The real drama behind these two families comes to light at the very end. Until then, there are only vague hints that are almost lost in the plot. But at the same time, they run like a dark thread through the novel.
Characters
The contrasts in the figures couldn´t be greater in places. The author not only plays with the contrast between rural and urban life, but she also depicts the different ways of life and quirks of her characters in such a way that, as a reader, you can quickly recognize them, but not see them as a flaw.
Anna is a young woman obsessed with lists and the fulfillment of duties, who not only clocked her daily routine completely but also the rest of her life. Without detailed lists or detailed plans and procedures for every step of her life, she can neither work nor study nor take care of her father. Private life? Nothing. It is only when Max enters her life, and it turns it all over the place that Anna realizes what is missing and what is so sorely needed.
Conclusion
This story is full of emotion and drama. And anything but easy reading. Anyone who likes kitsch and shallow clichés in a romance novel are wrong here. This novel is heartbreaking and, in places, very upsetting. Not a straight face remains. At least not mine. Highly recommended.

Zugegeben, während der ersten paar Kapitel war ich schon verwirrt, da ich mit den unterschiedlichen Figuren nichts anfangen konnte. Es hat lange gedauert, bis sich in meinem Kopf erste Verdachtsmomente bildeten und noch länger, bis die Autorin diese durch die Handlung anfing zu bestätigen.
Da werden beinahe parallel zueinander die Geschichten Zweier Familien erzählt und gleichzeitig die eines jungen Liebespaares, Anna und Max, die auf den ersten Blick nichts miteinander gemeinsam haben. Der Stil der Autorin ist dabei sanft, einfühlsam und schildert die Welt der jungen Familien, die sich ein Nest aufbauen und alles tun, um sich dort wohlzufühlen. Isabell May beschreibt den ganz normalen Alltagswahnsinn zweier junger Familien mit Kleinkindern. Dabei gelingt es ihr auf fantastische Weise diesen Alltag nicht langweilig erscheinen zu lassen, auch wenn es für den Leser schnell offensichtlich wird, dass sich eine der Hauptfiguren in ihrem gewählten Leben beinahe zu Tode langweilt. Das eigentliche Drama hinter diesen zwei Familien kommt erst ganz am Schluss zutage. Bis dahin gibt es immer nur vage Andeutungen, die fast schon in der Handlung untergehen. Sich aber gleichzeitig wie ein dunkler roter Faden durch den Roman ziehen.
Charaktere
Die Gegensätze bei den Figuren könnten stellenweise nicht größer sein. Die Autorin spielt hier nicht nur mit dem Gegensatz Landleben und Stadtleben, sie stellt auch die unterschiedlichen Lebensweisen und Macken ihrer Figuren so dar, dass man sie als Leser zwar schnell erkennt, sie dennoch nicht als Makel ansieht.
Anna ist eine von Listen und Pflichterfüllung besessene junge Frau, die nicht nur ihren Alltag komplett durchgetaktet hat, sondern auch den Rest ihres Lebens. Ohne detaillierte Listen oder bis ins Kleinste ausgearbeitete Pläne und Abläufe für jeden Schritt ihres Lebens kann sie weder arbeiten noch studieren noch sich um ihren Vater kümmern. Privatleben? Fehlanzeige. Erst als Max in ihr Leben tritt und es gehörig durcheinanderwirbelt, merkt Anna, was ihr fehlt und was sie so bitternötig hat.
Resultat
Diese Geschichte ist voller Emotionen und Dramen. Und alles andere als eine leichte Lektüre. Wer auf Kitsch und seichte Klischees in einem Liebesroman steht, der ist hier falsch. Dieser Roman ist herzzerreißend und stellenweise sehr aufwühlend. Da bleibt kein Auge trocken. Zumindest meine nicht. Höchst empfehlenswert.
