There is no doubt that this series has become one of my favorites. And this third one was breathtaking. It blew my mind and I was at the end of it very shaken, shocked, and happy at the same time. Pierce Brown has a way to write that is beyond anything I´ve ever discovered in this genre. His words are so powerful and there is poetry in it and yet it has all you require in a very entertaining novel.

Darrow would have lived in peace, but his enemies brought him war. The Gold overlords demanded his obedience, hanged his wife, and enslaved his people. But Darrow is determined to fight back. Risking everything to transform himself and breach Gold society, Darrow has battled to survive the cutthroat rivalries that breed Society´s mightiest warriors, climbed the ranks, and waited patiently to unleash the revolution that will tear the hierarchy apart from within. Finally, the time has come. But devotion to honor and hunger for vengeance run deep both sides. Darrow and his comrades-in-arms face powerful enemies without scruple or mercy. Among them are some Darrow once considered friends. To win, Darrow will need to inspire those shackled in darkness to break their chains, unmake the world their cruel masters have built, and claim to destiny too long denied – and too glorious to surrender.
Story
Darrow wants nothing more but to free his people, the Reds, from the unscrupulous Golds. To achieve that he had to become one of them; to learn how they think, in what they believe, and to fight as they do. But deep inside he´s still a Red. And so his tactics are different from what the Golds use to do and the advantage that keeps him alive. But to go the final step in his plan he has to find a way to convince Ragnar´s mother, a queen of the Arctic, to help him.

Style
Told from the first person of Darrow, you dive deep into the plot and become again involved with his way of thinking, who he sees things, and why he is the man he is. Yes, this story is very bloody, there are many losses among his way and yes, you probably won´t agree with everything the author does at first sight. But on the other hand, you will find great entertainment and power between the pages you usually don´t expect from a book like this. Sometimes I even thought the author's writing style is very poetic. There is a lot of truth hidden in it, things you can easily attach to your personal life and that is, among some other things, what makes this trilogy so fantastic. You are actually convinced by what you read.

Morning Star is a novel in which you will see many unexpected twists and turns. There is not one single page where you are able to see what is coming, where you could predict how everything will turn out. You are always eager to see what will happen and so be prepared that you might want to read this in one sitting and probably overnight.

Characters
With only a few words Pierce Brown creates figures, shows how they really are through their way of acting, and gives them a meaning more or less important. There is strength in them no matter if they are the main figure or a minor character; important or not. They show a power that is amazing and that is either helpful to Darrow´s plans or throws stones into his way.

Darrow has become a man who sometimes asks himself if he is already on the dark side or if there is still some of the man left in him, he once was. He has seen a lot of dead, fought many fights, and lost some very dear friends along the way. He wins and he loses and still, he wants nothing more but to free his people. The way he fights the Gold, how he gets finally to Octavia, and how he fights her is remarkable and sometimes very overwhelming.

Conclusion
This was EPIC. After reading this book I was emotional, shocked, and totally thrilled. Guess I can truly say that the Red Rising books are one of my all-time favorite books I got over the years. And this third is one of the best books I´ve ever read in my life.

Happy reading
