This is one of the series I enjoyed very much while reading some years ago. Julia Quinn knows how to enchant her readers with every word, scene, or dialogue. And with the Bridgerton siblings as acting figures entertainment and reading fun is always guaranteed.

✶✶✶✶✶
The most sought-after bachelor in London society and the most promising debutante of the season: Lord Anthony Bridgerton and Edwina Sheffield would undoubtedly make a beautiful couple – if it weren´t for Edwina´s extremely worried sister Kate and the very dubious reputation of the Lord. Kate is determined to protect her sister from the heartbreaker – until one day the Viscount pulls her into his arms and closes her mouth with his demanding lips. Excited and horrified at the same time, Kate realizes that she secretly desires the man who courted her sister …
Story
April 1814. Only a few months have passed since the wedding of Daphne Bridgerton and the Duke of Hastings when Kate Sheffield is horrified to discover that Daphne´s brother Anthony Bridgerton has had an eye on her sister Edwina. A statement that Kate absolutely does not like, the Lord is considered a womanizer and bon vivant. In order to prevent Edwina from succumbing to Bridgerton´s wooing, Kate tries to never leave them alone and to keep the lord away from her sister as much as possible. But it is easier to think and plan than to actually implement it. Not only in London, but also at the Bridgerton´s country estate, where Kate and her sister stay for a week at the invitation of Lady Bridgerton, Anthony´s mother. The more Kate tries to keep Anthony away from her sister, the closer she gets to him, and when a little bee accidentally interferes in the action, the fate of Kate and Anthony seems to be sealed.
Style
Written light and humorous, the novel offers the reader an entertaining and varied story. Julia Quinn writes in a simple, straightforward style using the language of the time and is still modern and easy to read. The author not only brings the traditions and customs of that time closer to the reader, but she also shows in the familiar scheme of the Bridgerton series that everything does not always go as planned or desired by the protagonist. Each chapter begins with a small excerpt from Lady Whistledown´s society journal, in which the reader gets a bold but definitely stylish impression of what the next chapter is about, without the plot suffering or even the identity of that mysterious person Lady Whistledown is aired. The tension grows with each side of what will happen next between Kate and the Lord and whether the secret of the society reporter will be revealed in the end.
Characters
This time, Julia Quinn doesn´t take the beauty of the season as the protagonist, as usual, no, this time the main female character is more of a beauty that only reveals itself to the viewer at second glance.
Kate is the exact opposite of her half-sister in terms of looks, far too self-confident for a woman of the time and unfortunately too direct and tactless to inspire benevolence or even passionate feelings in the opposite sex. And yet she casts the lord under her spell with precisely this behavior and character traits. She has behavior, without a doubt, but I often had to smile when Kate had to bite her lip convulsively to suppress an inappropriate comment or even to utter a word to the Lord, which would have made her sometimes quite involuntarily situation worse rather than better.
Conclusion
The second volume about the Bridgerton siblings is also an extremely entertaining and easy-going story, which gives the reader amusing insights into a completely different time and in which humor and wit are just as important as love itself.
Happy reading
