You know it is Christmas when Little Lord Fauntleroy airs on TV, the Disney channel shows the x-mas movies that had their premiere last year in the US, and when the TV magazine tells you that you can watch the Sisi movies with the late Romy Schneider during the holidays, like every year. Somehow it wouldn´t be Christmas if those movies wouldn´t be shown on television.
This year, Christmas is like no other. And when I think of Christmas 2019 where I could hug my parents, exchange gifts without any social distancing and we could laugh out loud or sing a Christmas song, it seems as if it were in a different life.
Under normal circumstances, I wouldn´t have given it a second thought about the how, where, with whom, and how many of our family could come together in one place to enjoy a festive and happy Christmas Eve. Not this year. I had already thought that 2019 had been a tough year but a tiny little virus taught me otherwise. We lost my biological mother this year and my father´s best friend. We can´t go to church on Christmas Eve, so we will light a candle in memoriam for them.
Although things will be different for most of us this year, I am sure that it will be an incredibly special Christmas Eve and holidays. With more self-reflection, more cautiousness but nonetheless with all our hearts can give.
