With the Weekly Book Wrap-Up, I give you a bit of an insight into all the new books that have arrived at my place. No matter if I won a giveaway, got approved for a reviewer´s copy, an ARC, or just bought one myself. Everything that I add to my shelves, in what way ever and read during the past week or am still reading, I will write about it. And maybe I tell you a bit about the upcoming things on Inkvotary, that is if I don´t forget it and have something to share with you *smile*

All week long I tried to buy some rapid tests of a certain brand without having to pay a fortune. So, Monday through Wednesday I had some sort of the same daily routine. Calling shops, going for a power walk, going to the bank to take care of my bills, and keeping myself updated with the news and new rules. One Christmas market after the other had to close its doors and only a few are left now. All out of reach.
On Thursday the local drugstore finally had new rapid tests in storage again and I bought some for the Christmas holidays. In the evening I watched the live coverage of the Große Zapfenstreich, the Bundeswehr gave to chancellor Angela Merkel. It is the highest honor a major politician can receive when leaving office. It was wonderful to watch and very moving. Feels weird to know that she won´t be around as chancellor next weekend.
On Friday I went to the library, borrowed a book, and went back home. A few hours later our government made it mandatory for the next weeks, that I will have to get an official negative rapid test if I want to step into the library again. This means that I can only use the “media-to-go” service the library is offering too. Limited to five books. I don´t see a point in having to book me a test appointment a week in advance at our local pharmacy, to get a hopefully negative result and official papers to be able to go maybe five or ten minutes inside the library.
I finished the HoHoHo Readathon with two read books out of five and can say that it is one more than I managed to read last year.
The rest of the week was again quiet. I was at home, watched the rest of the Adele evening at the Los Angeles Observatory, and was awake early Sunday morning. I checked the news and hope that we will get a chance to be together on Christmas day one way or the other.

Germany is not fairing well with CoVid at the moment I understand, I’m sorry your Christmas plans are so unsettled as a result. We’ve just gotten rapid tests here but they are pretty expensive to just buy off the shelf.

Well, the rapid tests my family is using voluntarily aren´t that expensive. Around 1,75 Euros for one. Of course it adds up if you need to take one every time you want to visit your kids or see your newest great-grandchild. But the main problem in Germany is that too many grown-ups are still not vaccinated.

Most of the Christmas markets are right in the inner city. They can´t provide a controlled entrance or put a fence around it. And the financial aspect is also important. Usually such places are packed with people. Not this year...
DeleteYour week sounds rather quiet and I like quiet. I thought Angela Merkel was pretty good; I'll be sorry to see her go. But I don't live there so what do I know?

Angela Merkel did a great job during the past sixteen years. She not only is the first woman to do the chancellor job but also is the first chancellor who decided to leave office because she wanted to leave. Her smile during the ceremony told you it all. I am happy for her although I have a bit mixed feelings and will surely miss her way and style how she represented Germany abroad.
