I discovered this book at my library a few weeks ago. And because I´ve read the first book, I wanted to know how the second was. Well, turned out it wasn´t as thrilling as the first one has been. And with the cliffhanger at the end, I am not very happy either. The last scenes were the only good ones. Dramatic and action-filled.

Story
The Ice wolves are in control of the Snowstone. A powerful stone that is threatening the lives of all dragons. Dragons need heat to feel good and to be able to fly for hours and in the worst conditions. For Anders and Rayna, a clear sign that they must do something, to prevent a new war between the wolves and dragons. But whom will and can they trust if something goes wrong?
Style
The writing style is soft, easy to read and easy to understand. The story itself is not very profound and I was missing the great fantasy that was playing in my head while reading the first volume of this series. Sure, there were scenes in here, and settings like I am used to get from the author. But most of the time I saw only grey and darkness. This story is, no doubt about it, way darker and less colorful than the other book has ever been. And it was not good for the plot. At least not in my opinion.
Anders and his twin sister Rayna do everything they can to prevent another war between the two species. But both sides don´t trust each other and for Anders it becomes quite clear that only a huge misunderstanding has led to the life both sides live today. The way how the author shows the conflict both sides are in, especially Anders and Rayna, is brought beautifully to the reader´s eye. Sadly, not enough to make the story more attractive to the reader.
Characters
The author has brought some new figures into the game. With Anders and Rayna now living at the dragon mountain, it becomes quite clear to them, that they have to do everything they can to find out the real truth behind all the lies, secrets and things the grown-up dragons and wolves do and believe.
Anders knows that he is different. He only has no clue about the why. Why was he not able to turn into a dragon like his sister and why he is producing a mixture of fire and ice? And how did he do it anyway? Many questions are swirling around in his head and he knows by instinct that he needs to solve the riddle about his birth to be able to help those he calls his friends.
Conclusion
A nice read but not as haunting, diverse, and action-filled as the previous volume has been. I missed the excitement, I felt while reading book one. Maybe that comes back with the next book.
