I still love the work by the author. This book here is one I read some time ago. And despite my little irritation about one scene, I am still thrilled about how the plot was developed. And that the reader is guessing until the end if Leila and Vlad will have another happy ending after their first happy ending. My advice, read the book and find out for yourself.

Story
Leila loves Vlad more than anything, but she is not willing to always dance to his will and be treated like an underage child. Since it also seems that she has lost her abilities and Vlad is becoming more and more distant from her, she sees no other way than to reject his offer to become a member of his clan and to end her relationship with him. A step that not only completely surprised Vlad but also forced him to rethink. When an unknown person is after Leila, the situation becomes critical, and Leila is forced to take a cruel step.
Style
Jeaniene Frost staged the second part of the mini-series about Leila and Vlad in the usual gentle tone. Which is also the fourth individual novel in the Night Huntress World series. The reader experiences a fast-paced story in which some things are blown up, a lot of blood is splattered and there is more than just one highly passionate scene.
After the wonderful happy ending of the previous volume, everyday life now creeps into the relationship between Leila and Vlad. An everyday life that Leila doesn't like at all, especially since it's been a while since she and Vlad shared the bed. The tensions that prevail between her and Vlad are skillfully written down by the author with a great deal of self-mockery, thus creating a real fascination for the reader.
Jeaniene Frost keeps the reader guessing for a long time as to whether she wants her two main characters to have another happy ending. The plot on the way there is varied, exciting, and written so quickly and fluently that you don't want to put the title down.
Characters
Jealousy, passion, hatred, and an extreme amount of anger and despair - the author spares her characters absolutely nothing. For a fantasy novel, the individual characters are surprisingly deep and compelling. There is even a brief reunion with Cat, which the author captures in a very amusing scene.
Leila struggles with the fact that she no longer has the ability to find out more about a person by touching objects. Since no one can tell her whether this is just a temporary state or a permanent one, she finds herself in an unbearable state of uncertainty. A feeling she doesn't like, as the gift makes her a valuable person to Vlad.
Another interesting character, who plays more of a supporting role in this novel, is Leila's sister Gretchen. The carelessness with which she accepts Vlad's money for her immense shopping addiction is not only limitless but also extremely embarrassing for Leila. But that doesn't bother Gretchen at all. She takes full advantage of Vlad's hospitality. Gives Leila a stand-up and more than once a resounding slap in the face for her behavior.
Conclusion
A gripping fantasy novel that scores with breathtaking scenes, quick-witted dialogues, and lots of blood. A must for all fans of Jeaniene Frost.
