What a fantastic cover! The blood red of the stone and the black in stark contrast with the white caught my attention first and fascinated me from the beginning. And while reading the novel with growing enthusiasm, I noticed that the story itself shows a stark contrast as well. The plot and the figures show sides and things I never thought would happen. But what impressed me most was Grace with her inner strength, her power, and her irrepressible will to get what she wants. At the end of this book, I was literally shocked when Hudson said something I hadn´t seen coming. Will that be what the third book is all about?

Everything feels off - especially me. I’ve returned to Katmere Academy, but I’m haunted by fragments of days I have no recollection of living and struggling to understand who, or what, I really am. Just when I start to feel safe again, Hudson is back with a vengeance. He insists there are secrets I don’t know about, threatening to drive a wedge between Jaxon and me forever. But far worse enemies are at our doorstep. The Circle is caught in a power play and the Vampire Court is trying to drag me out of my world and into theirs. The only thing Hudson and Jaxon agree on is that leaving Katmere would mean my certain death. And not only am I fighting for my life but now everyone else’s is at stake - unless we can defeat unspeakable evil. All I know is that saving the people I love is going to require sacrifice. Maybe more than I’m able to give.
Story
Grace is back. Only to discover that something is keeping her from being together with Jaxon. It just doesn´t feel right anymore. And although she knows that Hudson is only in her imagination, she can´t do things anymore the way she´s used to. But with the help of her friends and a dangerous game the entire Katmere Academy loves to play and is looking forward to each year, Grace also discovers that there is so much more to being together with Jaxon. His family is dangerous and Hudson especially. But are things really the way they seem? Or are Jaxon´s powers only a fraction of what Hudson seems capable of?
Style
I loved the humor, the irony, and the sarcasm the story shows throughout the ongoing plot. Good, some pages and chapters seemed, at first sight, a bit too much filled with things I wasn´t really interested in. But then the author changed her way of filling the pages with action, with some hilarious dialogues and scenes, and with that, the story turned into a thrilling and fascinating novel about magical creatures and the Katmere Academy.
I have no idea where Tracy Wolff got her idea from for the figure of the King. But he is one piece of a bad character that is the thing that brings the spice into this book. Pure evil.
Characters
Tracy Wolff hasn´t changed her figures much. Here and there is a slight change in how the figures think or act but it fits all well together. It was the little interactions between Grace and Hudson that made me grin more than once. To imagine that she was acting as if Hudson was really standing in front of her, was just brilliant. The tournament she went through with her friends the first time and then later, alone – left me breathless at times.
Good, I admit it. The more I read, the more I became a Hudson fan. He seems the stronger of the two brothers and the one who is really connected with Grace. And with the end of this book, I am convinced that he is her real mate. But one by one.
Hudson seems to know something, neither Grace nor Jaxon are aware of. Sure, Jaxon does everything to keep Grace from any harm, but he also asks her to stop doing certain things she believes can help him. For me it sounded as if a piece of a puzzle was missing, that would give the answer to everything. And with that feeling, my empathy for Hudson started to grow. Is he what Grace really needs? Is he her real mate?
Conclusion
This book has it all. Drama, passion, action, big emotions, and figures that range from lovely to evil. The end was a shock, and I am still not sure what to think of it. But one thing I am sure of. If you are not familiar with this series, start reading the books. They are great entertainment and worth your time. Even as a grown-up *smile*
Tracy Wolff
USA Today Bestselling and #1 New York Times author Tracy Wolff collects books, English degrees, and lipsticks and has been known to forget where - and sometimes who - she is when immersed in a great novel. At six she wrote her first short story - something with a rainbow and a prince - and at seven she forayed into the wonderful world of girls lit with her first Judy Blume novel. Since then, over 65 novels have been added. By ten she'd read everything in the young adult and classics sections of her local bookstore, so in desperation, her mom started her on romance novels. And from the first page of the first book, Tracy knew she'd found her life-long love. She loves vampires, dragons, and anything else that could send shivers down your spine. The former English professor now writes full-time erotic romance and contemporary romance as Tracy Wolff, paranormal romance and urban fantasy as Tessa Adams, and young adult novels as Tracy Deebs. The author lives with her family in Austin, Texas.
