Trailer Reveal: Till Death by Jennifer L. Armentrout

After I had read her Lux series, I knew I had to sign up for this as soon as I got the news on social media about it. And after some waiting, I finally got the approval and so I am very happy that I can present to you today the trailer reveal of Jennifer L. Armentrout´s new book Till Death. It is such a beautiful trailer with wonderful soft music and two figures who are really worth looking at. Oh, and by the way, this post doesn´t contain any affiliated links. Sorry folks, but I  have to say that in case some of you are wondering.

For all those, who might not know the author or her books, you can read at the end of this post a few words about her. Don´t worry it is not the length of a novel, but I thought a few words wouldn´t hurt. But before we start the show, I have a little description for you. A little sneak peek, if you like - hope it makes you a little curious ...

Gone With The Books Best Authors Of 2016

It took me some time to get this list together and to narrow her down to the names listed below. And it wasn´t easy for me to keep my list at the set goal of only ten, but that was necessary since otherwise, my list would´ve been a mile long. At least! In the end, I wrote them down as they came into my mind. The list shows them in random order since I cannot really decide which one of them I like more than the other. They all have a great way of writing books and each one of them got their very individual style. Some of them write in the same genre, but you can´t really compare them with each other – they all have something you won´t find in the other books.

That is, what makes each of them so special!

The list contains some authors who were quite new to me and which I kind of discovered by accident. Sara Humphreys or Sarah Morgan isn´t new to the reading world, but I discovered them during 2016 and have no clue why I haven´t read any of their books before.  Abbie Roads and B.A. Paris were in 2016 two debut authors and I had to take a break from reading after I was done with their books.  They had quite an impact on me. So I highly recommend them to you.

I know there are many, many great authors out there, and maybe your choice would have been or is another, but thankfully we all have different tastes in what we like to read – would be boring otherwise. I could have listed much more that gave me a great reading experience in 2016. But I decided to keep my list as short as possible and the above-named authors were the result.

Hopefully, the one or the other will capture your interest and you will have the same great time reading them as I had.

Gone With The Books Best Books Of 2016

I finally found the time and energy to put my best books of the past year together. I narrowed them down to ten titles. Among them some authors who were totally new to me like Abbie Roads or Sara Humphreys or B. A. Paris. My list shows them in random order which I wrote down as they came into my mind.  It has been a really great year in reading books and I am already looking forward to the new books that the one or the other author will have coming out in 2017.

I read many more books, but those were the ones who stood out and had a deeper impact on me as the others.

Just click the cover and you can read my review about the book.

Abbie Roads and B.A. Paris were in 2016 two debut authors. Both will bring out new books in 2017 as well as Sara Humphreys who was completely new to me as well. Since some of those books were from my library and I didn´t think of taking a picture as long as I had them here, I am only presenting the covers in a list and not, as I saw it around the web, in one big picture. Each of those books is worth your time though I have to say that the Andreas Eschbach book is currently only available in the German language.

Weekly Book Wrap-Up #41

In my weekly book wrap-up, I share with you the new books that have arrived at my place. No matter if I won a giveaway or got approved for a reviewer´s copy or just bought a new one. And I will tell you a bit about the how and why I added them to my shelves and why I wanted them in the first place. And of course, I link up this meme again with the two other suspects that are hosting each of them *smile*. So Tynga´s Reviews and Bought, Borrowed & Bagged are still on board here at Gone With The Books.

Stacking The Shelves #41

Stacking The Shelves #41 is hosted by Tynga´s Reviews. A meme that is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical stores or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course ebooks!

Bought, Borrowed & Bagged #25 in homage of Barron´s Books & Baubles from Karen Marie Moning´s smash hit series, Fever, hosted by Braine at Talk Supe.

The past week I thought I turn nuts. Two book orders are still hanging in the air because the shop where I ordered them can´t get them, though they are in stock at the US shop of the same company and I have to fight to keep those orders up to and ready to be delivered someday in the future.  Another book was delivered and after I had opened it I saw that it had some very bad broken pages and reported that. The replacement was broken too and now I have to wait for the second replacement and HOPE that, that will be finally ok. Otherwise, I would have to wait some time before they get it in stock again. It is FRUSTRATING!

But on the other hand, I am doing a happy dance because I finally was able to get the first book of the Throne of Glass series (You can read my review of Throne of Glass here). Now I have all the original books at home as hardcover and can stop getting the German editions. Since the German publisher decided to publish the rest of the ToG series only in paperback – they started the first two books as hardcover – I thought about it and decided I´ll stick with the hardcover. So now I am up to date and can start reading the rest of them *smile*

I already have the US edition of A Torch Against The Night at home since I could get it for a very good price some weeks back. Now I can add the German edition to my shelves. Both covers look beautiful and I am looking forward to reading it.

Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This series is such a blast, that I had to read the third book right after I had finished the second. Good, I didn´t read it overnight, as I had the other two, but this was kind of different. Yes, I devoured it as well, but I also needed to take my time with it –so many beautiful and surprising things happened. And one thing is for sure: Blake YOU ARE SO DEAD! Yes, that figure cost me some nerves and I am not at all happy with what he did. But more to that later.

Opal

Genre Fantasy

✶✶✶✶✶

No one is like Daemon Black. When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn´t fooling around. Doubting him isn´t something I´ll do again, and now that we´ve made it through the rough patches, well … There´s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on. But even he can´t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love. After everything, I´m no longer the same Katy. I´m different … And I´m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more realize there is no end to what I´m capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won´t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever. Together we´re stronger… and they know it.
Story
Everything seems so perfect. Katy and Daemon are having an almost great time and she finally lets her feelings out and admits that she wants to be with him. They could be like any normal couple if there wouldn´t be Blake. He shows up again and despite the fact that Daemon doesn´t trust him at all, Katy wants to learn from him. But how wrong she was and how right Daemon, she has to learn the hard and painful way.

Style
To see how the love between Daemon and Katy starts to bloom and how he does everything to keep her from harm is a beautiful and very entertaining show. The author brings everything to life from Katy´s view and she wants to do everything that´s in her power to become independent. But her powers aren´t the same or as strong as Daemons and soon she has to realize that she will never be able to fight the way Daemon and his folks can and do. Jennifer L. Armentrout has a wonderful way to bring the dialogues, the scenes, and her figures alive. She uses a soft but incisively tone, writes in an easy to read language and yet you become more and more aware that there needs something to happen or the next book in this series wouldn´t make any sense.

But I had to swallow very hard when I read what she did to Katy in the End and I only thought: Blake you are so dead! Because he turns out to be even more devilish than expected and to get me, as a reader, to that point, requires quite some talent. And Jennifer L. Armentrout has it definitely. She achieved it with one single line. Okay, the reading speed isn´t as fast as it was with the other two, and for some reason, I needed more time to read it, but that doesn´t mean that I haven´t enjoyed every second of it.

Characters
The things that are happening leave their marks on Katy. Not all of them are visible, but enough to change her. She is still a girl with great beliefs, principles, and incredible inner strength. And yet you can see that she isn´t the innocent girl anymore from a few months back when everything started. Her soul is darkened though she still doesn´t want to get the innocent hurt. On the other hand, she knows very well that she can´t help everyone, that she can´t keep everyone safe.

Daemon is one hell of a character. He doesn´t trust Blake a bit, but he can´t and won´t stop Katy from making that experience all by herself. And when Blake proves how evil he really is, and what he is willing to pay to get what he wants, it is too late. Daemon is forced to step back and all of a sudden the page flips and now he has to learn how his brother had felt when the same happened to him.

Conclusion
That. Is. So. Cruel. I don´t know what to say. The end was not what I expected and I am surprised and shocked. The author has really quite a way to keep her readers stick to her books and I can´t wait to read how this story will continue. Highly recommended.

Happy reading

Follow Friday #10 – Despised Genres

This is a Friday meme now hosted by Patricia of FiktiveWelten. Every week she asks a question that you can answer. Everyone who would like to participate, just answer her question, link to her blog, and write a comment under her post to let the others know that you are participating. The entire rules you can find here.

I haven´t done this in a while, since not every question was one I had an answer for. And for some questions, I had already planned my own post. But this week I found something I was typing spontaneously and so here is what I have to say about the despised genres. I actually have only one. Others I read only occasionally.

If I had to give it a name I would call myself a genre omnivore. But not entirely; you won´t find me reading in the horror area and if a romance novel becomes a way to kitschy and the pages start to drip of too much sugar-sweet stuff, I am out. There are so many good books out there, so many different writing styles and so many great authors that I just can´t make myself to read only one particular genre. I read whatever catches my interest and where I feel some connection when I look at the cover and then read the summary of it.

How is it about you?

Waiting On Wednesday #34 – A Court Of Wings And Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

is a weekly event hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine. This meme is a place that spotlights upcoming releases that we´re eagerly anticipating with pure joy. For months I am waiting for this book. And for about an hour now I know how the cover will look like and I am really thrilled. I find this cover so wonderful, so mysterious and beautiful.

The UK cover is not really mine, I have to say, but thankfully we all have different tastes (it would be boring otherwise *smile*). But I definitely need to catch up with this series. Book one, A Court Of Thorns And Roses, I already read, but book two is still on my TBR. And yet I can´t wait to get this third one into my hands *smile*

Bought, Borrowed & Bagged #24 in homage of Barron´s Books & Baubles from Karen Marie Moning´s smash hit series, Fever, hosted by Braine at Talk Supe.

I got a lot of new books this past week. Some of my pre-orders were delivered way earlier than expected which made me actually dance across the house. Some I just bought because the price was soooo seductive and thanks to the forum Lesejury the giveaway Dirty that I had won back in December was finally in the mail. I discovered a sort of antique book store online and couldn´t resist trying and bought some books for a very low price I wanted for ages. So a lot of books I expected to arrive next week came this week and my TBR grew quite a lot …
